There is a story behind everything. And good stories are how we humans have passed along information and remembered stuff for a very long time.
So, do you want to know how we came up with the name “Focus Forward” for the Starter and Business Memberships?
Routine
Verne Harnish, author of ‘Scaling Up’ says, “Routine will set you free”. He points this out in the early part of the book. Yet it wasn’t until my 4th time through that I really saw it, and it clicked for me.
While working with my coach, Bill Bishop, we started discussing this very concept. Bill is great at getting me to look at things in ways I never have before. After all, a fish is the last one to see water.
We landed on the following. Creating systems, routines, frees your mind space and emotional energy to focus on the big decisions, the important decisions, the decisions that will move your business forward. Routines allow you to know what to do in routine situations and not have to make the same decision every day, over and over.
Routines are therefore not a constraint, as I had always viewed them, but they are liberators that allow you to move on to bigger, better, more critical decisions for your business. They free you up to look forward.
By implementing routines, just another word for processes or systems, you free yourself to “Focus Forward” instead of backward or inward. You free yourself from the constant and repeated distractions that are keeping you from realizing your full potential, and that of your business.
My Challenge to You
I challenge you to take something that you or your team do routinely and document it. This is the first step in creating a sustainable process. Documenting it allows you to share it with multiple people. It also allows you to take an honest and critical look at the process and improve it. You can test, iterate, and make it better. All while keeping a lasting record that you can use in training, remediation, reviews, and maybe even to help a friend starting out in their business.
Please share this and the “Focus Forward” Starter and Business Memberships with someone you know.
Thank you!
